Match Racing at the Aberdeen Boat Club
What is dinghy match racing...
1v1 racing over a two lap windward / leeward course.
Each team will consist of a helm and crew.
We will have two races going on course starting 5 minutes apart.
Races are 10 minutes long and teams change opponents each time.
Teams that are not racing will wait on the committee boat.
There are specific procedures for the start, protesting and on the water umpiring.
The format is often a round robin followed by a knockout finals round if time permits.

Following on the success of the Match Racing Day on 23 May, I have discussed with Mr David Fan (World Sailing International Umpire) who has kindly agreed to run some Match Racing Training at ABC. Attending these courses will definitely give you new insights on using Racing Rules to your advantage in Match Racing. Honing your sailing skills and match racing maneuvers will also definitely pay off in the next Match Racing day scheduled for our club sailors on 6 September. Details of the courses are as follows:
Theory Evening: 13 August (Thur) 7-9pm at ABC mainclub
Practical sessions: 15-16 August (Sat & Sun) 9am-5pm at Middle Island
